Panic Opens Lightning DV Adapter, Finds SoC Inside

Panic:

Your eyes don’t deceive you — that tiny chip says ARM. And the H9TKNNN2GD part number on there points towards RAM — 2Gb worth.

In short: it appears the Lightning Digital AV Adapter has a SoC CPU.

That’s unexpected.

The serial number on the RAM suggests it is made by SK Hynix. Other details are currently sparse. There are many theories circling the web about how the device works (what OS does it run?), but someone needs to dump the flash before there can be concrete answers to these interesting questions.

Hynix replaced Samsung as the main supplier of RAM in the iPhone 5. Their RAM is used in some Macs, too.
